History/Overview

Eureka, Missouri is a city located in St. Louis County along I-44 near Pacific and Wildwood. The area is thought to have been first inhabited by Shawnee Native Americans who lived along the banks of the Meramec River. In fact, if you go searching in the area, you can still find artifacts and other remnants today. 

The city was plotted as a village in 1858, as it was on the route of the Pacific Railroad. It has been said that it got its name after a crew of men cleared a path and found the land that’s now the city and yelled, “Eureka!” because it was level and had very few trees that needed to be cleared. The word Eureka is Greek and means “I found it.” By 1890 the village was home to over 100 homes.

Eureka is located in St. Louis County right on Interstate 44. The city is close to Allenton, Pacific, and Wildwood in the most southwestern portion of the county. Many people love Eureka’s location because it’s about 28 miles and 30-minutes from downtown St. Louis, so it provides a very rural suburban feel.
